Book early or book very late

Summer holiday pricing follows a familiar U shape. Prices are lowest in the January and February booking window when tour operators launch new brochure programmes, rise steadily through spring and early summer as demand builds, then drop again in the final two to three weeks before departure as operators offload unsold inventory.

The middle of that curve, roughly April to June bookings for summer travel, is the worst value window. If you can commit early or you have flexible enough plans to book at short notice, either end of the curve delivers meaningful savings.

Consider what you're actually paying for

Peak week pricing exists because families with school aged children have no choice about their travel dates. If your household doesn't fit that shape, avoiding the peak weeks unlocks 30 to 40 percent savings for essentially the same holiday.

Even within the peak, mid August has slightly weaker demand than late July and early August, so bookings for the 15th to 25th of August often carry 10 percent lower prices than the same holidays a week earlier.
